First day:
Creative workshops "Idea Mining", offered by the Transfer Centre enaCom at the University of Bonn. In "Idea Mining" interdisciplinary teams collect ideas in an unconventional and innovative way. In a multi-stage process, a concrete question or problem from everyday (research) life is discussed. A range of creative techniques are used under professional supervision. This frees people from habitual ways of thinking, opens up new perspectives and helps to break down mental blocks ("getting rid of the box"). In this way, innovative solutions can be developed. The idea-mining workshop concept was developed by the Research Transfer Office (AFO) at the University of Münster. In their individual "Idea Mining Workshop", the BIGS PhD students work intensively on the question: "What strategies could improve the global accessibility and affordability of essential medicines? The retreat's organizers (Felicitas Lauber, Troy Maziol and Clara Wollenhaupt), together with Christina Quaim and Dr. Florentin Schmidt (Innovation Scouts, Transfercenter enaCom), had considered the question in advance. Members of the University of Bonn who are interested in idea mining and would like to carry it out themselves are welcome to contact the Transfer Center enaCom (enacom@verwaltung.uni-bonn.de).
Second day:
The expertise of PD Dr Martin Jübner (Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Cologne) as a forensic toxicologist is in demand when blood alcohol analysis is used to reconstruct the course of an accident. In his lecture "The hip flask defence - possibilities and limitations of congener analysis", Mr Jübner showed how such questions can be clarified with the help of accompanying substance analysis. The PhD students then presented their posters and discussed their research results. Finally, the students visited Altenberg Cathedral. Everyone enjoyed the retreat. The PhD students appreciated the opportunity to get to know each other in a different environment and to make informal contacts. Many thanks to the organizing team and the guests!
